I don't think one's beliefs about God matter in regard to the answer. The answer is the same, regardless.

Now, one's beliefs DO matter when you try to frame the answer in a way that the person can comprehend/accept. If the person is of the belief that 'everyone is basically good' or that we are 'evolving into better beings', then I would start by asking some questions. I would like them to show me any historical proof that their theory has any legs to stand on. This needs to be done in a thoughtful, caring way and not in a condescending or threatening way.

The best way to show someone the Truth is to allow them to make the discovery. Too often we try to 'beat the truth into someone' and then wonder why they resent us?

My initial thoughts. I may add more if anything comes to mind. I probably should have given this thought BEFORE posting. I probably make, absolutely, no sense.
