Just got an email from Kiva.org that the borrower has now begun repayment of their loan. Kinda cool. This person wanted money to buy a sidecar for her husband’s motorcycle so he could become a tuk tuk, which is like a rickshaw or better known to us in the US as a taxi.
If you’re not familiar with Kiva, they pair borrowers and lenders in what is known as micro finance. I heard about them a year or two ago and got the itch one day to actually do something. The cool thing is that you get to pick who you want to loan money to, so you really get into their story and feel like you are playing a role in the future of their lives. Most all of the loans go to underdeveloped areas in the world, helping to raise up entreprenuers that in turn fight poverty at ground zero.
Anyway…I’m stoked that my borrower got fully funded and that her husband is evidently making money!
